King & Donna, Inc. (DBA K&D) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit based in Southern California dedicated to addressing the growing homeless crisis through direct action and grassroots efforts. Founded in 2024 by a group of passionate locals, K&D not only provides basic needs and outreach events for those experiencing homelessness but also strives to tackle the root causes of homelessness by raising funds for mental health and drug rehabilitation services. Inspired by our upbringing in the Southern California punk scene, we embrace core values such as taking care of our own, anti-authoritarianism, nonconformity, and the DIY ethic. At K&D, we believe in taking matters into our own hands while celebrating our passions for music and art. Join us as we take on the system and make a meaningful impact on our community.

Mission

Our mission is to disrupt the status quo of relying solely on systemic solutions to address the homelessness crisis in the US. Through grassroots efforts, empowering individuals, fostering community resilience, and inspiring systemic change, we strive to ensure dignity and recovery for all affected by homelessness.

The Problem

California is facing an unprecedented homelessness crisis, with recent data indicating that nearly 30% of the nation’s homeless population resides in the state. As of the latest counts, approximately 171,000 Californians are experiencing homelessness on any given night, representing a significant surge over the past decade. This crisis is not just a matter of lacking shelter; it's a complex intersection of unaffordable housing, insufficient mental health services, and pervasive substance abuse issues. Our experience supporting the unhoused has revealed many holes and barriers to treatment in the system. While resources exist, it can be extremely difficult to get mental health and rehab services while unhoused. The visibility of this crisis in our communities is a daily reminder of the urgent need for effective solutions. At K&D, we are committed to addressing these multifaceted challenges by providing essential services and support, aiming to not only meet immediate needs but also to foster long-term stability and recovery for our most vulnerable populations.

Our solution

At K&D, we implement a versatile approach to tackle the homelessness crisis head-on. Our solutions include direct outreach events and the provision of basic necessities to address immediate needs, coupled with funding mental health services and drug rehabilitation programs to confront the root causes of homelessness. By engaging with the community through art and music events, we also create awareness and foster a supportive environment that encourages societal participation and change. Our strategies aim not only to provide temporary relief but to build long-term resilience and stability, empowering individuals to transition out of homelessness and into a brighter, self-sustained future.
